SF/sub 6/ and the atmosphere

The gas SF/sub 6/ is predominantly used for electrical insulation and switching. Its possible environmental effects when released into the atmosphere are assessed. It is shown that the relative contribution of SF/sub 6/ to the greenhouse effect is <0.01% and that its contribution to stratospheric ozone destruction is <10/sup -7/.<
