A High-Drive-Performance Microsecond Pulse Power Module for Portable DBD Plasma Source Device

The portable dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma source device has a broad application prospect in the field of biomedical engineering, but the volume of the device and the normal running performance of the DBD discharge are key technical problems limiting its application. This article proposes a high-performance microsecond pulse power module (MPPM) system for DBD electrode load discharge of the low-voltage lithium battery power input. The high performance of MPPM is reflected by the driving performance of the DBD electrode load and by the optimization of the volume parameters of the MPPM based on the design model of the dc energy storage capacitor and the heat loss reduction method of a resistance–capacitance–diode branch proposed in this article. An experimental hardware platform with an average output power of 7 W and a maximum pulse amplitude voltage of 15 kV is manually built in the laboratory with a small volume size of 85 mm × 35 mm × 30 mm (length × width × height) to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system's volume parameter optimization methods. The experimental results indicate that the thermal balance temperature of the MPPM can be reduced from 115.3 °C to 52 °C without adding any additional heat dissipation scheme. When the proposed MPPM is applied to a portable plasma source device with a surface DBD (SDBD) electrode structure, which is used in the biomedical field, the MPPM endows the SDBD electrode with a good discharge effect and a thermal balance temperature of 47.3 °C, so the electrode can safely be in contact with human skin for a long time.
