The optical analog of negative temperature coefficient resistance

Light propagation in disordered dielectric materials shows many similarities with electron transport. The most simple example of this is Ohm's law which has a counterpart in optics as well. We have performed optical measurements on the transmission through opaque liquid crystals and infiltrated porous glasses to illustrate this effect. In particular, we have studied a system where the "optical resistivity" can be made temperature dependent.
