Summary form only given. The State of California has a renewable portfolio standard of 33% energy production from renewables by 2020. SDG&E has approximately 100 MW, from 13,000 rooftop photovoltaic system installations at year end 2010. Governor Brown is proposing an additional 12,000 MW of renewable distributed generation installed by 2020. In order to accommodate these ambitious state energy policy goals, SDG&E believes it is imperative to install smart grid technologies to mitigate the impact of the intermittent power production on its grid. SDG&E also believes that these smart grid investments will be able to accomplish these policy goals at a lower cost than traditional infrastructure upgrades.
