Numerical analysis on electric field and taping for stator coil with global insulation

The electrical and mechanical characteristics of our global insulation system (F-resin/G II insulation system) have been introduced in the several papers. In order to perform the optimal insulation design, a quantitative analysis of stator coil with global VPI insulation of generators is required, and therefore electric field strength of current coils was analyzed utilizing the finite element method (FEM) in this time. In the other hand, quality of coil insulation is dependent upon not only materials used but also manufacturing method. In particular, since a taping method of insulation affects the break down voltage (BDV) of coils, the optimum state thereof should be seized. Based on the above, the optimum state of taping was determined through a unique analysis program. The numerical analysis results are reflected to current stator coils with global insulation system contributing to the upgrading of insulation.
