Electrostatic dissipation of smoke using evaporating charged water spray

Tests have been carried out to determine the feasibility of dissipating smoke in an enclosed room by means of very fine charged-water-droplet aerosols. Dissipation times were compared for charged and uncharged water spray injected from an ultrasonic nozzle. The results show that under certain conditions the charged water spray dissipated the smoke to acceptable visibility in approximately two minutes, compared with 38 minutes for the same spray uncharged and over 120 minutes for natural dissipation. The results are interpreted using an approximate model of space-charge dissipation of the charged smoke to the walls and ceiling of the room.<
