Acoustic plate-wave biosensing

The biosensing potential of a flexural plate-wave delay-line oscillator is described. Experimental results confirm theoretical predictions that the sensor can operate in contact with a liquid and still detect small changes in membrane mass. A response to adsorbed proteins is observed as a prelude to the detection of specific biomolecular reactions and implies that the sensor can be used to monitor specific biomolecular reactions. The delay-line oscillator also provides a tool for monitoring adsorption of molecules at each step of a covalent immobilization process in real time.<
