New developments of the wire-patch antenna for ceramic technology and multifunction applications

The design of antennas for industrial applications has been an important goal and especially for mobile telecommunications. So many functions at different frequencies must be available on an aircraft, on a boat and even on a car that the number of antennas increases on these mobiles. In the case of cars, there are also problems of aesthetics and vandalism. It is essential to study techniques to reduce the bulk of these systems. The wire-patch antenna structure is useful for reaching this goal and this paper presents how we can use it to improve the integration of antennas for these applications, using ceramic materials and regrouping different functions in multifunction antennas. Some examples of such antennas, which have been theoretically designed using FDTD code (see Reineix, A. and Jecko, B., IEEE Trans. Antennas and Propagation, vol.37 no.11 p.1361-9, 1989), are presented. First, a brief summary of wire-patch technology is given.
