The planning and implementation of a EMC successful product safety program

Planning a project is no small task regardless of the product type or scale. EMC/product safety projects are no exception. In fact these projects represent large efforts even on small projects. Many factors involved with the project are out of the engineers control. Some of these include, but are not limited to, hardware design, vendors, suppliers, regulatory and testing groups. On some level the design may also be out of the engineers control. To exaggerate the confusion, the mandatory test standards are constantly being regulated. An ideal EMC/safety product will successfully go through the testing process and pass all required standards the first time. Is this a high goal? Yes, but it is attainable and is being achieved by proper planning from the ground up. This paper discusses the factors involved in making a success of such a product.
