Analysis of microstrip antennas with PBG-D using the TTL method

The use of photonic materials has certainly revolutionized the theory concerning electromagnetic/optical waves propagation. In despite of the fact that photonic bandgap theory was first developed for lightwaves, it is fairly applicable for centimeter and millimeter waves. The presence of photonic materials as subtracts of planar antennas yields some desirable features such as suppression of spontaneous emission and prevention of surface waves, thus avoiding coupling between the antenna elements and between antennas in a planar array. This work performs a detailed analysis of these devices using the TTL (transverse transmission line) method. This full wave method is concise and efficient and gives results which are presented for the photonic bandgap (PBG) parameters using a PC 500 MHz microcomputer.
