Impact of filter concatenation on the performance of metropolitan area optical networks utilizing directly modulated lasers

In this work we study experimentally (using a re-circulating loop) and theoretically (using Q-factor calculations) the impact of the different chirp characteristics of 2.5Gb/s directly modulated lasers on the filter concatenation effects in transparent metropolitan area optical networks.
