Charge migration in irradiated polyethylene

Results are presented on the transient electrical conductivity observed in ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene irradiated with nanosecond pulses of 3 MeV electrons. The data were obtained by measuring the microwave absorption with microwaves in the 26.5 to 38 GHz range, using the time-resolved microwave conductivity technique. Charge migration is observed with an average lifetime of approximately 7 ns. The mobility of the charge carriers is estimated to be 1*10/sup -4/ m/sup 2//Vs.<
