Craft, romantic, rhetorical: traditions that have shaped our identities

Different traditions (craft, romantic, and rhetorical) have shaped beliefs about writing and design. These traditions have served as lenses through which others view us and we view ourselves. This paper discusses these three historical traditions, how they have shaped perceptions of technical communicators, and how we can use this knowledge to enhance communication in the workplace.
