A True Random Number Generator Based on the Multiple-Scrolls Chaotic System

In this paper, a new design of the true random number generator based on the multiple-scrolls chaotic system is presented. The chaotic system is very suitable to be designed as a random source because of the uncertainty of the chaotic behavior. First, the differential equation of the multiple-scrolls chaotic system is designed. Then an analog circuit is designed based on the differential equation. The output of the circuit is sampled and digitized to achieve a random sequence. After the post-processing method, the random output can pass the statistical tests in AIS31 and FIPS140-2. Compared with the previous true random number generators, this design not only depends on the uncertainty from the nature, but also amplifies the uncertainty with the multiple-scrolls chaotic system. And the chaotic system is easy to implement on the hardware.
