Miniaturized Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Magneto-dielectric Substrate for RFID applications

A magneto-dielectric substrate [MDS] technique is introduced in this paper for miniaturizing microstrip patch antenna. The microstrip patch antenna is placed on MDS layer, the MDS layer is used to increase the magnetic permeability so the size of the patch is decreased. The proposed antenna is designed to operate at UHF RFID band. An RFID chip is a matched with the antenna using matched loop. By using MDS, the size of the antenna is reduced the size about 77 % compared to conventional antenna. The proposed antenna is suitable for passive RFID tag.
