Dynamic Traffic Light Control Mechanism in VANET

In recent times technology is undergoing rapid changes and human life is getting benefited from that. Modern transportation systems are of no exception. But, traffic congestion has turned out to be the most significant issues as of late. A dynamic traffic light control mechanism to reduce road traffic congestion in Vehicular ad-hoc network is proposed in the present work. The maximum waiting time of vehicles in red signal is calculated dynamically by considering the number of vehicles stuck in red signal and by observing whether congestion occurs in the lanes having green signal. The random distribution of vehicles among different lanes is considered during simulation to make it more realistic. The performance of the scheme is studied qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative performance is studied in terms of storage and communication overhead of the system. The quantitative performance is studied in terms of waiting time and queue length. It is compared with three existing congestion control schemes.
