Spatio-temporal channel models for the mobile station: concept, parameters, and canonical implementation

We treat spatio-temporal channel models for the mobile station in cellular communication systems. The well-known model of wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering is extended for the perspective of a vehicular antenna array. We define a delay-pattern-time-space-correlation function and find a closed-form for it for any given wave incidence profile, array geometry, antenna gain patterns, and mobile movement. Various space-time system functions are defined and illustrated by means of a bad urban spatio-temporal wave scenario. Finally, for simulation purposes in which temporal correlations are insignificant, we present a canonical discrete-time Gaussian channel model approach based on inter-element correlations alone.
