Looper and tension control in hot rolling mills: An adaptive sliding mode approach

An innovation adaptive sliding mode control algorithm is proposed for looper system in the presence of unknown nonlinear disturbance. First, a sliding mode surface function is constructed using the Lyapunov function and linear matrix inequality (LMI). Then, an adaptive sliding mode control law is designed, which can drive the state trajectory onto the sliding surface within limited time and guarantee the robustness during the control process, and give the theoretical derivation. The simulation results show that the designed control method can track looper angle and tension very quickly, and effectively solve the robust control problem of looper system with unknown nonlinear disturbance.
