Tuning of PID parameters by integrated taguchi-pugh technique — using region elimination approach

In this paper, a simple PID controller parameter tuning method is proposed. Though many methods of PID tuning have been proposed till date still most of the PID controllers in use are poorly tuned. In this paper an attempt has been made to integrate Taguchi and Pugh Technique using Region Elimination approach. Taguchi method helps select input parameters by conducting lesser number of experiments and Pugh approach helps by generating a single rank/score for multiple comparison criterion. Further search for target values of PID parameters is made easy by narrowing down the search space by eliminating the search region not containing the desired values of PID parameters. Results show how this integration of different method helps achieve the target by conducting lesser number of experiments to save on time and money without compromising on the result.
