Voltage improvement of loop configured distribution networks with DGs & FACTS devices

Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices and distribution generators (DGs) are converting conventional power grid into reliable and localized systems. The existing distribution network is incapable of balancing the supply and load demand which results in poor voltage profile, system insecurity, unreliability and increased system losses in the network. The intermittent nature of DGs impose voltage variations on the network and limits the penetration of more DGs. FACTS devices are in practice for the performance enhancement and improving voltage profiles. This paper proposes voltage profile improvement in active loop distribution network in the presence of DGs and FACTS controllers. The 33-bus test system is used for the analysis and simulations. Different voltage profiles are observed under different scenarios by siting of DGs and FACTS devices in loop distribution networks.
