Use of the scalar Preisach model in 3D finite element analysis for C-core inductor design

A high power, pulse width modulation inverter produces a current of a sin wave fundamental plus high frequency harmonics. An inductor with an air gap and a soft ferrite core makes an effective filter hut is djf6cult to model. owing to the strong nonlinearity of the B-H relationship and the complicated core loss mechanisms. This paper will present a simulation that uses finite element analysis with a scalar Preisach model of hysteresis and an improved core loss model to predict the behaviour of B C-core inductor excited by a current source, including the difficult areas of thermal effect on the magnetic properties of soft ferrite; power loss through major and minor hysteresis loops: effects of harmonics.
