In-situ measurement technioue to measure wear of materials

Any two mating surfaces that move relative to each other will lead to wear of both surfaces. If the hardness of one surface is much higher than the counter face, the softer material will wear at a much faster rate than the harder surface. In certain cases. one may not be able to detect any wear on the harder surface. One challenge in any wear tests is to be able to quantify wear as a function of time.
