Experimental determination of the conduction band of excess electrons in liquid Ar

Thermionic emission of electrons through the liquid/vapor interface of Ar at the normal boiling point was measured. The minimum energy V/sub 0/ of the conduction band of the electrons in liquid Ar has been determined to be V/sub 0/ approximately=126 meV below the level in vacuo. This result is in good agreement with previous data, if the latter are corrected for contamination effects.<
