Detection of stenosis in blood vessel by using bio-impedance analysis

Bio-impedance analysis has become more extensively used for detecting various diseases such as blood and blood vessels diseases. The diseases related to the blood vessel are namely stenosis, aneurysm, occlusion, etc. The stenosis is caused by the buildup of deposits on the vessel wall. These deposits may restrict the blood flow and lead to serious health problems like heart attack. This paper presents new method for detecting the vessel stenosis non-invasively by using bio-impedance analysis. In this paper, the blood vessel is constructed and simulated using different shapes, sizes and kinds of mural deposits, and the impedance is measured at each stenosis case. Also equivalent circuit of blood vessel and mathematical equations are presented to describe the vessel stenosis. The simulation results clarify the ability of the bio impedance analysis for estimating not only the presence of deposit but also its kind and size.
