Dielectrowetting driven spatial light steering device for 3D optical applications

This paper presents a novel light steering device operated by dielectrowetting actuation for diverse optical applications. The control of the liquid-liquid interface in the light steering device is tested using a microfabricated chip. When a voltage is applied to interdigitated electrodes on the left or right sidewall of the chip, the liquid-liquid interface is tilted toward the activated electrode. In addition, the light steering angles are measured at different voltages by using a custom-made experimental system, and its performance is compared with the different types of light steering devices. The proposed light steering device provides a wide range of steering angles with the compact design and reliable functionality.
