Optimized Recuperation Strategies for Single Front and Rear Wheel Drives

Electric vehicles have the capability to recover energy by electric braking and therefore to extend their range. The potential for recuperation of electric vehicles with single drive using standard brake force distributions is reduced in comparison with four wheel drives. Generally, front drives have a higher potential for recuperation than rear drives due to the dynamic axle load shift during brake applications and corresponding brake force distributions. In this paper, optimized brake force distributions for single front and rear wheel drives are presented. A simulation based comparison with other distributions shows a higher potential for recuperation without negative impact on the stability of the vehicle.
