A compact gap coupled half-hexagonal microstrip antenna with improved bandwidth

In this paper, a compact configuration of indirect microstrip line fed gap coupled half-hexagonal microstrip antenna (H-HMSA) has been proposed. A technique using a single shorting post with pair of the λ/4 resonator and radiating half hexagonal patch are used to obtain enhanced bandwidth. The optimized values of the designed parameters are selected using simulation and the proposed antenna is fabricated. A peak gain of 6 dBi and VSWR ≤ 2 bandwidth of 8% is achieved. . A broadside radiation pattern has been obtained across the VSWR ≤ 2 bandwidth. The overall size reduction of 1.23% is achieved with respect to that of a conventional HMSA. Measured results are in good agreement with simulated results.
