A 20W single-input doherty power amplifier's bandwidth extension for wireless communication

In this paper, a single-input Doherty power amplifier for wireless communication application in the 2.4 GHz frequency band are presented. Main goal of this study is to improve the performance of gallium-nitride (GaN) Doherty transmitters over wide bandwidth in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. For this purpose, the linearity-efficiency trade-off for the proposed architecture is discussed. Simulated results demonstrate that the single-input Doherty power amplifier exhibited a peak drain efficiency (DE) of 77% and 6 dB back-off efficiency 47% at designed frequency. The simulated results showed saturated output power more than 42.2 dBm throughout the designed band. Saturated efficiency and small-signal gain of the proposed DPA is higher than 60% and 10dB, respectively. On the other side, proposed single-input Doherty power amplifier has lower linearity.
