An optimized video oculographic approach to assist patients with motor neuron disease to communicate

The previous decade has seen a large increase in the total number of individuals succumbing to the Lou Gehrig's disease also known as the Motor Neuron Disease (MND). Though the reason for imbibing the disease still remains a medical mystery, individuals exposed to the same showcase a gradual degradation of their nervous system and in turn lose their ability to locomote and speak. In this paper, an optimized approach to assist the MND patients to communicate utilizing a sequence of winks has been elaborated. A cost effective and simple setup has also been described. Compared to the predecessor algorithms which exist, the method discussed in this paper is 2 times faster and also accurate considering successful trials on 50 individuals. The complete algorithm was designed and developed on the 2011b version of SIMULINK.
