Application of gravitational search algorithm in optimization of microstrip antenna at 5 GHz

In this paper, a rectangular patch antenna is considered whose length and width along with height of the substrate is being optimized using Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) at the frequency of 5 GHz. GSA is used for the optimization using MATLAB 7.10.0 (R2010a). Rectangular patch antenna is designed using CST STUDIO 2011 on the basis of results obtained by MATLAB. The fitness function is used for deciding the optimized patch antenna. The S-parameter plot gives a brief account of return loss. The optimized antenna has smaller area and dimensions and it gives substantial decrease in return loss.
