Secondary user selection in energy constrained cognitive sensor networks

As spectrum resources are becoming scarce with each passing day, it is vital to optimally use all the available spectrum, thereby promoting the use of Cognitive Radio. However, in case of cognitive sensor networks, accurate sensing and the sagacious use of energy also becomes incredibly important due to the fact of limited availability of energy. In this study, we try to explore an optimal way to balance the conflicting requirements of accuracy and energy while selecting the secondary users in a Cognitive Sensor Network. The simulation results show significant improvement in overall network lifetime, thus promoting better utilization of nodes under constraints.
