Real vs. simulated voltage phasor measurements

There has been significant growth in research into power system applications with synchrophasor measurements, which address a variety of transmission and distribution network issues, in both operations and control. The vast majority of these application use simulated data from phasor measurement units (PMUs) for the purpose of testing and validation. This paper intends to reconsider PMU simulation practice in the recent literature and evaluate some application-specific discrepancies with reference to an error analysis on real data acquired from distribution PMUs (micro-PMUs). Finally, guidelines for PMU data simulation are proposed, aimed towards establishing PMU data simulation standards.
