The planar inductor with adjustable surface for energy harvesting applications

In the last decade, the smart utilization of the surrounding electromagnetic (EM) energy in human environment has been a subject of many studies. Since a number of present-day devices require the inexhaustible power supply in order to avoid the energy run-out problem, the energy harvesting concept has become systematically examined world-wide, with the objective of collecting and converting the available ambient EM energy. For that reason, the design and development of appropriate inductive assemblies has attracted researchers' interest, as well promising solution which could prolong the battery lifetime in various small electronic systems. In this paper, the idea of a simple, planar inductor with the capability of changing its surface geometry, under the pressure of a certain external force, has been suggested. This research will also present a basic concept and an adequate supporting simulation framework for the initial performance analysis of the proposed inductive assembly.
