Practical implementation of metamaterials in a reverberation chamber to reduce the LUF

Metamaterials have previously been shown to be a good solution to lower the LUF of reverberation chambers while conserving the required statistical field properties in terms of homogeneity, isotropy and random field polarization. In this paper, we propose to further explore the experimental implementation issues involved if one is to implement metamaterial in a reverberation chamber. The metamaterials previously used for numerical studies were based on metallic patches printed on a dielectric substrate of permittivity of 10; this makes experimental implementations on large surfaces costly and unattractive. A design methodology for metamaterials proposing identical electromagnetic properties along with a low-cost and easy to implement solution will be discussed. The results of their implementation on a reverberation chamber in terms of LUF will finally be shown.
