Design of DC light bulb for DC bus application

DC electricity is being extensively researched for electrical systems in remote areas. Normally, this DC electricity sourced from renewable energy. LED lamps are one of the lighting solutions that use DC sources, but these lamps need a series of drivers to operate. In this study, we used a buck converter as an LED driver to lower the source voltage. This buck converter works based on PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) system and uses Arduino as a pulse controller. The output voltage that has been lowered will be connected with the LED arrays i.e. the series of LEDs arranged in serial form. The driver circuit is also integrated with a battery with the working voltage of the lamp as a power storage that serves as a LED power supply when the source is disconnected. Based on the free-load buck converter test, the output voltage (Vo) value was strongly influenced by duty cycle changes and has an average error rate of 2.7% for simulation testing and 10.6% on project board testing. The test level of LED lights using lux meter was conducted on a closed test box with a size of 30 × 30 cm. Based on the test results, the LED light works maximally on 80% duty cycle with 540 lm flux.
