Performance evaluation and implementation of semi-flexible dipole antenna for Internet of Things applications

A design of wearable antenna operating at 2.4GHz for wireless local area network (WLAN) application is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of printed dipole patch combined with microstrip line feeding structure via-hole balun. The design is printed on Rogers 3003 which has dielectric constant of 3.0. The measurements on return loss and radiation pattern of this antenna configuration are included where return loss of -37.9dB and bandwidth of 322 MHz is obtained. Besides that, the antenna has been tested for different bending conditions defined by radius of 75 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm. It is found the bending conditions do not have significant effect on the performance of the antenna. The antenna designed also tested for wearable applications in terms of S11 parameters. The functionality of the antenna design is tested by taking the RSSI measurements at five different distances.
