Dual cavity Ku-band antenna for SatCom applications

Circular waveguide to dual-cavity transition is proposed for wideband, high gain, high aperture efficiency and low profile (60.6 mm) antenna. Target bandwidth is Ku band downlink and uplink frequency bands. Simulation result shows 40% (10-15 GHz) fractional bandwidth at VSWR<;1.5. Propose antenna has minimum 11.3 dBi gain at downlink band and minimum 12.4 dBi at uplink band. Aperture efficiency is better than 65% throughout the band. The structure offers a good alternative to standard gain horn antennas but with much less antenna profile. It can be used in phased array applications as well.
