Soft magnetic composites used in the special electric motor magnetic cores

Soft magnetic composites are used in the electrical motors' manufacture and can be considered as magnetic powder particles surrounded by an electrical insulating material. Today there is an interest in bulk soft magnetic composites, because of the high demand for miniaturization of the cores. These materials provide several advantages over classical non-oriented electrical steels. A Somaloy 500 torroidal sample was characterized, using a digital wattmeter. The normal magnetization curve was measured at 3 Hz and the total energy losses, relative magnetic permeability and its components (real and imaginary part) and coercive force were determined as a function of the frequency at the peak magnetic polarization Jp of 100 mT, 250 mT and 500 mT.
