Fuzzy logic based battery storage system for a standalone wind energy conversion system

This paper describes a comprehensive procedure for development of an isolated wind energy conversion system(WECS) where Energy storage system (ESS) is used for controlling the dc bus voltage across the dc link. Two types of disturbances are considered i.e load and wind perturbation. Generator output is converted into dc and at dc link battery energy storage system is installed for voltage control. Wind energy is harnessed by using a Permanent magnet synchronous machine. The simulation model uses PD and Fuzzy logic controller to control the charging/discharging of the battery and the results of both controllers are compared. LC filter is used after rectifier to provide ripple free dc output. Simulation experiments are carried and improved performance of the system is shown for a fuzzy based controller compared to PD controller.
