Modeling and simulation experiments of trail network formation by non-diffusion-based mobile molecular communication networks

In non-diffusion-based mobile molecular communication networks, bio-nanomachines use non-diffusive surface-bound molecules to form trail networks in order to coordinate their behavior. In this paper, we consider three types of bio-nanomachine responsible for trail network formation: non-reactive, attractive and repulsive. All the three types of bio-nanomachine deposit trail-forming molecules in the environment, while the non-reactive type walks randomly, the attractive type moves preferentially to the higher concentration of the molecules, and the repulsive type moves preferentially to the lower concentration of the molecules. We first model the mobility of the three types of bio-nanomachine using a Langevin equation. We then show through simulation experiments that the three types of bio-nanomachine form characteristic trail networks, which can be used depending on goals of mobile molecular communication networks.
