1192: implications for safety in machinery control systems

Integrity assessment in complex control systems demands a logical approach, and in the international and European standardisation organisations, technical committees and working groups are beavering away to create guidance on the standards to be achieved. The creation of the Machinery Directive and its contribution towards achieving the single European market by the end of 1992 has significantly increased the importance of this, and new standards work, during 1989. With particular reference to manufacturing machinery control systems this paper describes how this work is being integrated into the programme of European Harmonized Standards to support the Machinery Directive and consider the significance of the Directive for machine designers and users in the UK.<
