Measurement of rain attenuation in DTH services

The main problem of DTH is the signal disruption is due to rain. Rain fade, a major characteristics of signal propagation occurs at 11 GHz frequency. Rain rate measurement from which attenuation time series is generated plays a major role due to the non availability of actual signal measurements. This paper deals with the mathematical approach of the ITU-R model of rain attenuation and how it has been modified by incorporating an effective slant path model. The main concept behind DTH is to broadcast TV and other services to individual's house directly. By improving satellite performance we can reduce the size and the cost of the installation. The overall population of television viewers in India is around 136 million out of which 80% have way in to insulated wire and spacestation. The total DTH contributers are on the verge of around 22 million which lead it to have a market share of 20%.
