Power saving adaptive to terminal location in visible light communications

This paper proposes a method to minimize the power consumed by visible light communication systems which is aware of the location of the terminal. The optimization of communication power is modeled as a linear programming problem, the requirements on illumination should be satisfied everywhere throughout the floor and that on communication performances need to be satisfied only at the location to place the terminal. Two different objectives are considered. One is to minimize the total power consumed by the LEDs and the other is to minimize the communication power consumed by the LEDs. Numerical results show that the latter objective is more appropriate to reduce the part of power consumed by communication.
