Research on the influence factors of arc characteristics in the arc extinguish chamber in DC contactor breaking process

Based on magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) theory, the model of air arc in arc extinguish chamber with metal splitter plate of DC contactor is set up. By assuming the arc plasma sheath and coupling loop equation in the calculation, the arc motion and the process of extinguishing the arc by splitting into series arcs by metal splitter plates are simulated. The reasons for the formation of air vortex on the two sides of the arc chamber are explained by the change of pressure. Through the distribution of airflow field, it is found that the vortex flow is the main cause of the stagnation of arc root, and the influence of vortex on the dynamic characteristics of arc under different magnetic field is compared.
