Transient method for measuring thermal conductivity

A method is described for evaluating thermal conductivity of materials on the basis of the time rate of change of temperature along the central axis of a cylindrical test specimen heated by an instantaneously applied, axially located constant heat source. The method has been adapted to the laboratory measurement of thermal conductivity of finite-diameter specimens of dielectric materials. It is particularly adaptable to the use of automatic data acquisition and computer data reduction to provide rapid availability of test results.<
