Impact assessment of demand response and distributed generation in the colombian power system chargeability

This paper presents an assessment of the impacts of Demand Response (DR) programs and distributed generation (DG) in the chargeability of the Colombian power system. Initially, several indexes are defined to account for the impact of single contingencies in the chargeability of the Colombian power system under different operative scenarios. Then, the most critical operative scenario in terms of number and severity of overloads after single contingencies is selected to evaluate the impacts of DG and DR programs. Several variants are considered and evaluated for such scenario. It was found that properly designed DR programs as well as DG allow alleviating chargeability of critical circuits leading to a more secure operation of the power system.
