Numerical study of the flow inside a wind trapping system

More efficient exploitation of the available wind resources can typically be achieved either by the improvement of conventional systems or by the development of new and unconventional systems. This paper focuses on performance assessment for a relatively new system. Numerical simulations are used in order to characterize the performances of the INVELOX system in terms of velocity increase in the contracted area (where the wind turbine will be positioned). Although the INVELOX concept presents some advantages, it does not seem intuitively convincing. The few numerical studies that are publicly available, present numerical results for only one incidence angle of the wind on the INVELOX system. The exact conditions presented in the literature for that single incidence angle of the wind were replicated in the paper and the study was extended to different incidence angles. The obtained results suggest the existence of some drawbacks on the performances of the system.
