Strategy of surfaces measuring on the basis of minimization of control points number

The accuracy and productivity of measurement performed with the help of coordinate measuring machines depend not only on their technical characteristics but also on the strategy used to select the number, location of the points and the sequence of their circumvention on the surface. The article proposes a new strategy for the determination of the number and location of control points on surfaces based on the statistical simulation Monte Carlo. This approach allows us to obtain the interval estimates of measurement error for the workpieces' batches. The real data based modeling has shown the number and location of control points significantly affects the magnitude of the error in the measurement and analysis of flatness, cylindricality and sphericity. As the number of measurements decreases, the probability of measurement type II errors increases. The authors give recommendations for choosing a rational number of control points on surfaces such as flatness, cylinder, sphere.
