Development of a pulsed electromagnetic field based TENS device using Bluetooth® communication

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field is used to stimulate the human nervous system for several therapeutic purposes like pain relief and bone healing. These electrical stimulations are directly applied on the body through the cutaneous layer. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) pain relief, a variant of PEMF is very popular in healthcare institutions all over the world. However, with growing size of hospitals and increase in number of patients, there is a growing need for centrally operated TENS pain relief units rather than single unit devices. based TENS pain relief unit that can be centrally operated from a remote location. We use microcontrollers, Bluetooth
^®
and external analog circuitry to realize our design. The results obtained from our laboratory setup provide output waveforms as desired from our model. So, its feasibility as a functional hardware system is verified.
