Lightning strikes on power transmission lines and lightning detection in Colombia

This paper presents statistical results about the lightning incidence on power transmission systems in Colombia, based on a three-years failure record of very sensitive power transmission lines and the LINET lightning detection network. Both, failure modes and lightning detection performance was studied. More than 95% of lightning-caused failures were correctly matched, in time and location, with very close CG strokes.
